Der eingebildete Kranke
Rostock, 1991
" "The imaginairy Invalid" by Molière, directed by Axel Stöcker in 1991, was the first in which I appeared not as a chorus singer but as an actress, with a speaking part of my own. Every evening, I was picked up from home by taxi and had my own dressing room. It was the beginning of a great passion. At that time, two years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, nobody came to the municipal theatre anymore due to social hardship (the Treuhand had closed the shipyard and, from one day to the next, the unemployment rate had shot up in Rostock from 0 to 30%). If there were more actors on stage than spectators in the auditorium, we didn’t perform. Forums and public discussions with the actors were organised at the theatre to rekindle people’s interest in art and culture. All of this made a strong impression on me and has remained a benchmark for me to this day. "
