Drames de princesses
Geneva, 2010
In Elfriede Jelinek's subversive work, Snow White is ultimately killed by the hunter. Sleeping Beauty lives subjugated to her prince. Modern heroines are named Rosamunde, Jackie Kennedy, or Ingeborg Bachman. In the world of Elfriede Jelinek, scandalous author and Nobel Prize winner, there are no fairy tales. Just corrosive and jubilant ‘princess dramas’. What if all these female figures were destined to die? What if fairy tales were just a masquerade aimed at keeping women in a subordinate position in a brutal society?
Elfriede Jelinek composed this kaleidoscopic work in 2000, when Jörg Haider's far-right party entered the Austrian government. A variation on Death and the Maiden in five scenes. Maya Bösch, who is making her return to the Comédie, has taken on this rich writing. A story of sex, domination and illusory existence.
