SANDRA PREDICTS THE END OF THE WORLD,
BUT NO ONE CARES.

Sandra, a climatologist, divides her time between research into melting ice and stand-up comedy. Concerned about her recent studies into the impact of human activities on the environment, she wants to raise awareness with humour. There is a worrying scepticism around her, even within her own family. Just as Cassandra announced the fall of Troy but was not heard, Sandra predicts the imminent approach of a terrible tragedy but no one listens to her...

How do you convince others when they refuse to listen to you? Why do some people ignore the future that is staring them in the face? For his first opera, Belgian composer Bernard Foccroulle, in collaboration with his librettist Matthew Jocelyn, has chosen a highly topical theme: ecological activism confronted by the inertia of society. Thanks to the powerfully evocative music, conducted by Kazushi Ono, and sets that transport us in turn to an immense library, a beehive or the heart of a glacier, Cassandra opens the 2023-24 season with force and poetry.
