"They were two women, two mothers, committed to philosophical and political causes, through whom two such different continents could overlap whilst revealing their feminine power. Susi Vogel, like Rosine Nguélé in France, found herself in Belgium with a considerable career as an actress, composer and singer in France and Germany already behind her, and with the realisation that everything always has to start afresh.
But beyond all that, there is above all the meeting of two female artists separated by a cultural universe and a different relationship to the world…
From a distance, Susi listened to Rosine singing in Cameroonian and Rosine listened to Susi’s music. Two cosmogonies could take shape within the rich complexity of their differences. All the more so as there was an instant mutual desire for artistic sharing.
Between Susi’s northern fairness and Rosine’s ebony, beyond what seems like an anecdote but is not one, with the coexistence of these two women sharing the stage, something is happening there too.
From Susi came the idea of traditional African song, full of rough edges, fusing with contemporary electronic music, in a quest for an unknown, new, blended continent. Perhaps also a story of shared humanity, in the gathering of very different audiences around a single, singular object."
